Seven habits for a new you
Do you know the primary cause of deteriorating health among people these days? “Poor Gut Health” is the primary reason because people make unhealthy food and lifestyle choices as they are easy, affordable and convenient. Little did they know that these choices gradually make them sick. Eventually, into an incurable problem and tons of medicines that take them to the grave. So what we can do? Either do what everyone is doing, destroy yourself, or start taking steps to maintain gut health as it is crucial for your immunity and health. The choice is yours, so rejuvenate yourself with these seven simple changes to your lifestyle.
Balance Your Gut
Your gut is full of healthy bacteria, usually destroyed by eating unhealthy food such as fried items, in-organic edibles, carbonated drinks, sugars, gluten, and chemical-rich packed and frozen items. So, what I did is eliminate the items with the best alternatives. I started buying fresh vegetables and fruits, probiotics such as Kefir or yogurt became a regular, made my sauerkraut, switched to flaxseed and buckwheat bread and pita. If I crave a fizzy drink, which is very rare, I add carbonated water to a berry compote of my choice and enjoy it. You can add lemon or lime, but I avoid it as severely allergic to it.
Proper food combination
After all these years, it was surprising for me to know that eating proteins and starches together is a deadly combo, and we all have been doing this for ages. Proteins (Nuts, seeds, dairy, all kinds of meat) go well with vegetables, and so do the starches (beans, potatoes, grains, pumpkins). We should also avoid eating sweet fruits (banana, dates, raisin, figs and dried fruits) with starches too. Similarly, berries never work well with vegetables.
Allow sufficient time between meals
Okay, I admit I had a very terrible eating timetable, or I can say gaps. Sometimes I spent the entire day without eating and filling myself in the evening, then after a couple of hours eating dinner too. Now that I know how I was disrupting everything inside me. I have created a full timetable of what to eat and when. My first meal of the day starts at 8 am, and my last meal of the day is mostly at 7 pm. Yes, you may indulge yourself once or twice, so don’t panic.
Chew at least 20- 40 sec
I know we all remind a child to chew his food, but adults need a refresher too. My biggest eating flaw is watching something or reading while eating. Yes, I am changing the habit and sitting with everyone. This eating method has made me more focused on the food I eat and how much I have eaten, which sure is less than I used to.
Manage fluid around meals
Often we cannot recognize thirst but opt for food so keep yourself hydrated by drinking water, kombucha, or teas, either green tea or any fruit tea. My go-to teas are chamomile, Matcha and turmeric immunity boosting tea.
